Mobile Phones- This Generation And Beyond.
Do you remember your first mobile phone? Well it may have been a long time ago but mine was big and black and really, really heavy! I used to hang it on my belt thinking I was really cool, despite me limp due to the weight of the mobile.
Back in the day the only thing one could do with a mobile phone was to make and receive calls- now one can do also everything with a mobile phone. Technology has advanced at such fast speeds yet it is the mobile phone that has had the greatest impact on our everyday lives. For the purpose of this article we will be looking over some of the features and mobile phone technology, of yester-year and how it has evolved to present day standards.
One of the most noticeable features of the old models of mobile phones was its size. The mobile phone was so big and uncomfortable it resembled a brick more than a phone. No wonder it was the sizes and shapes of the mobile phone which was the first feature that started to change. As the years went by, mobile phones kept getting smaller and smaller.
The first new technology introduced to the mobile phone, was SMS (short message service) and was only available on GSM and then later to other mobile networks. Later on WAP and GPRS allowed mobile phones to also access certain websites. These features are part of the 2G mobile phone technology.
Mobile phones evolve in generations; 1G, 2G,3G and so forth. The 2.5G mobile phones were introduced with colour screens, and this was just a few short years back! It is also in the 2.5G that mobiles started to become more than just talking devices, as companies started incorporating cameras into mobile phone, giving you dual usage. This became hugely popular and soon almost all brands were making mobiles with cameras. Mobile phones also came with a number of different tunes which could be used as ring tones, and in the next generation actual songs would be used as ring tones and alarms.
Then the next big jump in the mobile phone evolution was the jump to 3G devices. This technology completely changes the mobile phone to a mini computer. Now, one had access to faster download speeds making internet access a breeze.
The entertainment on the mobile phones have also been a major development. Data can be quickly exchanged between mobile phones, with Bluetooth technology. With mobile phone gaming, keeping young people glued to their screens. Entire books and files can be read on your mobile, and yes you can store any dictionary on there for quick references. Cameras have increased in the amount of pixels, which take really good pictures. And the taking and fast sharing of pictures have become common day practice. MP3 allows you to listen to all your favourite songs, and even full CD’s while live video streaming has made it possible for you to watch your favourite soapy from the train.
The modest mobile phone has morphed into a highly sophisticated mini–computer. And has become such an important part of our everyday lives that it is hard to believe we ever survived without it.
